Wakefield Trinity v Wigan Warriors Preview
Wakefield Trinity welcome the giants of Wigan Warriors for a cross Pennines match up that has all of the hallmarks of been an entertaining 80 minutes of action.
Wakefield Trinity are a club with lots of promise, lots of quality but who have a ground that holds them back and a lack of depth that often see’s them lose far too many players to injury.
They are also lacking in the facilities and support staff to really take fitness and recuperation to the next level to really propel the club onwards and it is often those fine margins off of the field and behind the scenes that makes all of the difference out on the field.
One club who spare no expense in every facet of a Rugby club are the Wigan Warriors so it is no surprise that not only do they enjoy success in terms of trophies and titles so often but that they have incredible strength in depth to deal with injury concerns.
Over a season all of that will always play into the favour of the Warriors but on any given match day, Wakefield know that they have a chance to take on and defeat any body and as they have shown time and time again, including a thrashing of the Warriors a few years back, at Belle Vue they are difficult to beat and can pull of a surprise win.

Stadium
Belle Vue is host to this one and what can you say about Wakefield’s ground? Well I suppose the best way to describe it will be, it is a dump. But those who go regularly and who don’t have rose tinted glasses on will give you a few more choice descriptions.
Whilst the stands are crumbling and the view can often be obstructed for fans and with a lack of roofs will are likely to get wet or blinded by the sun- and of course the atmosphere gets lost, one positive you can say about the ground is that it has a full length and wide pitch which can help to give us free flowing and action packed matches.

History
These 2 historic clubs have enjoyed lots of success down the years so it is no surprise that they have also faced off in some if the biggest matches that the sport has to offer.
One such occasion came in the 1959-60 season when the 2 sides met in the Rugby Football League Championship Division One final to decide on the national champions.
It was Wigan who dominated the match on that occasion in a 27 points to 3 victory that saw them grab the title of champions of England.
The history of big matches between the 2 sides goes back even further than that game however as they also faced off in the 1945-46 Challenge Cup final.
In what was one of the closest matches ever, it was Wakefield who ran out the victors by 13 points to 12 to win the cup and grab the headlines.
It took until the 1962-63 season for the 2 sides to met once again in the Wembley showpiece final when it was Wakey who once again prevailed with a 25-10 victory to take the cup back up the M1 from London.
