World Club Challenge Preview

The World Club Challenge is a unique spectacle where the best team in the northern hemisphere takes on the best team in the southern hemisphere.

First established as a concept way back in 1976, it wasn’t until 1986 when the game became an official match up when the Widnes Vikings shocked the world by defeating the Canberra Raiders.

Since then, the match has been held regularly and even annually since 2000, apart from 2020 and 2021.

It has given the fans of the sport some incredible moments and massive shock results including when Wigan went to Brisbane and came away with the win, whilst Saints win over Penrith in Australia in 2023 ranks as one of the best performances ever in the competition.

Team News

Wigan make one change due to Luke Thompson missing due to concussion protocols, with French youngster Tiaki Chan taking his place in the squad.

Penrith are without Samoan star Jarome Luai due to injury.

Stadium

The match takes place at the DW Stadium, which is one of the biggest and best Rugby League stadiums in the UK. Fittingly for a match of this magnitude, the game sold out well in advance of kick offs and with a hugely partisan home crowd behind them, Wigan will have all they need to take on the NRL giants.
