State of Origin Series
After a slow start the State of Origin series is now one of the major sporting events on the Australian sporting calendar, with up 90,000 in attendance at the games and with millions watching throughout the country.
All 3 of the State of Origin games are shown around the world and are often the most watch rugby league matches of any kind.
Originally seen as a way of giving the top Australian players the chance to impress there international, the series has moved on from that to become something much bigger and is now a must watch for rugby league fans.
The games are played in June and July with all of the participants getting the weekend off before hand, so all of the players are fresh and ready go and often produce some of the sport’s greatest moments.
The tension and excitement from having partisan crowds at these game also helps create an often unmatched level of intensity, which although it can often overspill, when kept in check it creates huge hits and big plays.
Whilst the SOO series has it’s detractors and there is currently a huge debate over the future of the series, there can be no denying that each and every Queensland v New South Wales match is a must watch event and a stand out on the Rugby League calendar.
The Maroons have been the dominant force for well over a decade but that doesn’t stop fans turning up in huge numbers and it doesn’t stop the series from dominating the main stream media in Australia for the 6-8 weeks of event.
That media focus takes the game from been one of pride, interest and enjoyment for Rugby League fans to becoming a part of the culture of Australia- much in the same way the Grand National and FA Cup Final do in the UK. Even outside of the 2 states it is a time when Australia comes together to watch what the best Australian Rugby League players can do.
It is interesting that as the best players in the sport are starting to be spread out amongst a number of countries, the interest in the State of Origin has almost increased, certainly on a global scale with the matches watch by millions around the world.
Here at RLbet.co.uk we preview and predict each and every State of Origin match bringing you all that you need to know on each and every match including the squads, form, schedule, our thoughts and of course our prediction.
State of Origin Betting
From our point of view as a betting portal, another great aspect of the State of Origin Series (SOO Series), is the betting opportunities and also the fact that it is often a big focus for many bookies.
With lots of different markets available and lots of interesting special markets on offer, the Origin Series can be an interesting event to bet on no matter if you are an ardent follower of Rugby League from Australia, a UK/North American fan totally new to southern hemisphere rugby or even if you have never seen a game of Rugby League in your life.
The 3 match series is almost a unique event in world sport and that helps to create unpredictability, something that is always a friend to a punter.
Despite each and every player been a superstar of the sport, from famous internationals to the top players for their club side in the NRL, but with the teams only meeting up for a few short weeks every year and every time that they do meet up, the players have change does mean that it is difficult for both New South Wales and Queensland to click and to find a rhythm.
Some players do find the change from club rugby to rep rugby a simple one and some struggle, even for the experience players out there at this level and make for some interesting betting, especially if you focus on player specific markets such as first try scorer and man of the match winner.
Here at RLBet we bring you all that you could ever need to bet on State of Origin matches including match previews, match predictions, the latest odds, team news, date and kick of times, location and venue of matches, how to watch State of Origin live and anything else that we feel it is important to know.
If you are a Rugby League fan who is new to the State of Origin series, you will not be new to the majority of players as many go onto or have in past, represent Australia at the international level with the game originally set up as a way of determining who should go on to represent their country.
Whilst there is not the same official link to selection, if you go onto to have a strong Origin series who are likely to be picked for the Australian Kangaroos team.
