From its first weekend in Cardiff through a couple of years in Edinburgh and then on to Manchester, Newcastle and Liverpool, the Magic Weekend has grown from humble beginnings into a major event and we are sure that that success will continue.
The Super League Magic Weekend has gone from strength to strength since been established way back in 2007 when it was initially a season opener.
Then known as Millennium Magic, the event is now simply known as the Magic Weekend and it has gone on to become a festival of rugby where fans of all clubs sit alongside each and simply spend a day or too marvelling at the skill of the players and enjoying the excitement of the matches.
There are few sports in the world that an event such as this could, go ahead and the fact that it is the sport we are passionate about that can offer the event, is something we are grateful for.
The event starting at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff where around 120,000 fans enjoyed the matches over the 2 years it was hosted in the Welsh capital.
In 2009, it was the turn of the Scottish capital to host the event as just under 115,000 fans enjoyed the action from Murrayfield.
2011 saw the return of the Magic Weekend to Cardiff where over 60,00 enjoyed the matches before the event moved to the heartlands.
For 3 years, starting 2012 and running until 2014, Manchester’s Etihad Stadium was host to the event and welcomed around 190,000 fans.
The event moved from the North West of England to the North East with Newcastle’s St James Park hosting the Magic Weekend in 2015,16,17 and 2018 where over 265,000 fans enjoyed the 2 day spectacular.
It was then the turn of Liverpool’s iconic Anfield Stadium to host the event before it was scheduled to head back to the North East and to Newcastle but the 2020 event was cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 crowd restrictions.
