Leeds Rhinos v Castleford Tigers Preview
The Leeds Rhinos welcome their near neighbours the Castleford Tigers to the iconic Headingley Stadium for a West Yorkshire derby that always tends to deliver.
Both of these 2 rivals know the importance of the win in terms of what it means to their fanbases but more and more often it is a hugely important game in terms of the point on offer as these 2 sides battle it out over play-off places.
With the squads relatively evenly matched and with lots of local youngsters spread throughout both squads that know the passion and intensity needed for a game like this one, it is no surprise that the matches tend to be exciting games throughout and matches that tend to be tight and in the balance.
Perhaps best of all, both of this quality teams love to off-load and play attacking and free flowing rugby which makes it just as good of a game for neutrals as it is for fans of both teams.

Stadium
If you were to ask a non-rugby fan to name a rugby stadium, one of the first names that they would likely come up with is Headingley Stadium and it is no surprise why.
The stadiums is one of the most modern stadiums in the country and as a rugby specific ground, it hosts a great mix of seating, standing and corporate facilities that gives fans just what they want.
That helps the ground to create an incredible atmosphere and that gives the players all that they could ever need to produce the goods and to give us a great match up.

History
The Rhinos and Castleford are based just a few miles apart from each other in West Yorkshire so it is no surprise these 2 historic clubs have enjoy many great matches with each other down the years both on the local and national level but there are some matches that stand out head and shoulders above the rest due to the importance of the match and the stage that they took place on.
The first major match up between the 2 sides on the national stage came in 1969 when the 2 sides met in final of the 1968-69 in a fantastic match up that proved to be one of the closest ever First Division Championship deciders as Leeds ran out 16-14 winners in what is now known as the Grand Final.
The next major match up to feature the 2 sides came in 2014 when the fans of Leeds and Castleford headed to the iconic Wembley Stadium in London for the Challenge Cup Final where it was Leeds that ran out the winner since more by 23 points to 10 in a match played in front of just under 78,000 fans.
The 2 sides did not have quite as long to wait in between meeting in major finals as the 2 sides headed across the Pennies to Old Trafford in Manchester for the 2017 Super League Grand Final.
In front of just under 73,000 fans at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ it was the Rhinos who once more ran out the victors with a 24-6 victory over their near neighbours.
As two of the leading club sides in the heartland county of Yorkshire, it is no surprise that they have also met in major matches on the local level including the 1968-69 Yorkshire Cup final when Leeds ran out 22-11 winners over Cas in a match played at Belle Vue Stadium in Wakefield.
It didn’t take too long for them to meet again on the same staged when Leeds took on Cas at Elland Road where they once again ran out the winners by a comfortable score of 33-12.
