Salford Red Devils v Toronto Wolfpack Preview

The Salford Red Devils welcome the Toronto Wolfpack to the AJ Bell Stadium in a match that is up there as one of the most unpredictable of the season.

The Red Devils and Wolfpack have good quality throughout their squad but they just don’t have the depth of most other team which means not only do they need to keep their players fit and healthy but they also need to keep their players in good form.

That is a tough challenge for any side in a sport such as Rugby League, so you just never know from one match to the next just what you will get from these 2.

Salford showed last season that when they give there fans something to cheer, they will get behind the team and they will be hoping to get the same backing against the Wolfpack.

Both teams struggled in round 1 with Salford losing heavily at Saints whilst Toronto suffered a big loss to Cas.

Salford make 2 changes for this one with Ryan Lannon and Connor Jones replacing Mark Flanagan and Adam Walker.

Toronto have named just a 20 man squad.

Stadium

The AJ Bell Stadium is home to the Red Devils and whilst the stadium has had its problems since opening, the Red Devils small army of fans have shown that they can create a good atmosphere.

The ground struggles with a lack of features and a poor location but when the players come out on the field there can be no excuses as there is good pitch and good facilities for them.

For obvious reasons, the Wolfpack only have a small following for game over on this side of the Atlantic but they are known for bene fully behind there team and for adding a toc of colour to the proceedings.

Neither side showed much in the opening round to give any hope of winning in round 2 but of course 1 of these will have to pick up the points in this one.

Toronto showed in short periods that they are to continue throwing the ball around and whilst it led to mistakes against Castleford and it likely will in this one, if they can make more of the chance sit creates, they should be able to outscore Salford in what we expect to be a high scoring game.

If it doesn’t click and if they continue to come up short, the game will be there for the taking for the hosts and as we are still in just the 2nd round of matches, Toronto likely won’t be at their most fluid so the more safety first nature of Salford will likely prevail.
