Huddersfield Giants v Hull KR Preview
The Huddersfield Giants welcome Hull Kingston Rovers for this West Yorkshire vs East Yorkshire derby.
Both of these 2 clubs are amongst the most unpredictable in the competition which makes this game a difficult one to predict the outcome of.
The Huddersfield Giants have a solid squad that on their day can be a challenge for anybody and they are a club that should be looking at pushing towards the play-offs if they can keep the majority of their squad healthy whilst the Robins are a team who have quality in it but who lack the depth to be challenging over the length of a season.
What they can do and what they do do is make life difficult for any team as on their day they can beat anybody.

Stadium
The John Smiths Stadium is host to this one and whilst the open nature and size of the stadium can often lead to a flat stadium, the Robins normally have a decent away following there to support them and that normally helps create a decent atmosphere for this one.
The modern all seater stadium is a regular host of internationals and big matches and is a great place to watch rugby.

History
Although these 2 sides are located at opposite ends of the county of Yorkshire, it will perhaps come as little surprise that these 2 stalwarts of the sport have met in a number of major matches down the years, both on the local level and on the national level.
The first big match to feature the 2 sides came in the 1911-12 season when the 2 met in the final of the Yorkshire Cup where the Red and Whites picked up the cup in a match played at Belle Vue Stadium in Wakefield.
One early occasion for the 2 to make headline son the national level came in the 1922-23 season when the 2 sides met in the final of the of the Rugby Football League Championship. On that occasion it was Hull Kingston Rovers who ran out winners by 15-5 to become the English champions.
For the 1962 season, the competition was split between two ‘conferences’, East and West of the Pennines and in that season it was Huddersfield who met Hull Kingston Rovers in the final of the Eastern Division.
In a match played at Headingley Stadium in Leeds, Huddersfield went onto the game as the big favourites but it was Rovers who came away with the title after a domain first half that allowed them to hold on for a 13-10 victory.
In 2002, the 2 sides found themselves outside of the top flight and as 2 of the bigger teams in the 2nd tier so it wasn’t too surprising to see them meet in the final of that year’s Championship Cup.
It was the first edition of the cup just for those in the 2nd tier and it was the Giants who ran away to a comfortable win by 32 points to 6 in a match played at Post Office Road in Featherstone.
