As two of the foundation clubs based in the sports English heartland, it is no surprise that they have played in a number of important matches down the years.
One of the most important matches in the history of both clubs came in the 1947-48 season when the 2 faced of the in the final of the Rugby Football League Championship First Division.
With the national championship on the line, it was Huddersfield who came away with the silverware after one of the closest finishes in the competitions history when Hudds won by a single point by a score of 13-12.
Big matches between the 2 goes back further than that however as they met all of the way back in the 1912-13 season’s Challenge Cup final when it was Huddersfield who again came out on top by 9 points to 5.
The 2 sides also met in the final of the 1932-33 edition of the Challenge Cup when it was Huddersfield who just pipped Warrington to the trophy in a 21-17 victory.
It wasn’t until the 2009 season when the 2 sides met again in the cup final when it was Warrignton who headed back up north with the trophy after a 25-16 win at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London.
