History
These 2 north west giants have enjoyed lots of success down the years and especially during the summer-era but surprisingly they have only played against each other a limited amount of times in major finals.
One such occasion came in the 2019 Challenge Cup final at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London when it was Warrington who picked up the trophy and the glory with a dominant 18-4 win.
On the country level, the 2 sides have a much longer history of battling it out over silverware going back to the 1932-33 season.
In that year, the 2 set in the final of the Lancashire Cup where it was a much tighter affair as Warrington won the game and the trophy by a single point in a 10-9 win at Central Park in Wigan.
The 2 met in the final of the same competition in the 1959-60 season when it was Warrington who also came out on top and once again it was by a single point in a 5-4 win, once again at Central Park Stadium.
It didn’t take too long for Saints to gain their revenge however as the 2 met once more in the Lancashire Cup final in the 1967-68.
This time the match would finish even closer as the 2 battled to a 2-2 draw to send it to a replay.
In that second game the action moved from Central Park Stadium to Station Road Stadium in Swinton and both teams improved their attacking, but in the ned it was Saints who ran out 13-10 winners to pick up the silverware.
The next time the 2 would face off in the final of the same competition came in the 1982-83 season when this time it would be a one-sided affair that Warrington would easily win 16 points to 0.
