Salford Red Devils v Wigan Warriors Preview
The Salford Red Devils welcome their near neighbours, the Wigan Warriors to the AJ bell Stadium for a match up that will have a big Say on things at both ends of the table in the Super League.
Despite been close to each other in terms of location, these 2 sides are far apart in terms of their hopes and expectations with success for the Red Devils arguably been survival in the topflight, whilst success for the Warriors is measured in the amount of trophies that they win, with finals places been the bare minimum for a season not to be a write off.
It is no surprise therefore that many will have the Warriors as the favourites for this one but as gets shown time and time again in the Super league and as the Red Devils have shown plenty of times in the recent past, anybody can beat anybody else on their day.

Stadium
The AJ Bell stadium is home to the Salford Red Devils and whilst it is a fine modern stadium it, for whatever reason, hasn’t managed to grab the attention of the Salford public and it hasn’t yet created the sort of atmosphere that would give the hosts a big home field advantage.
Thankfully, there are some matches when the atmosphere is better and that is often when the likes of the Warriors are in town.
With a big following and with lots of interest form local supporters, the AJ Bell often comes alive for this game and that gives the players the best setting to produce there bet quality and to give us an entertaining match up.

History
These 2 near neighbours have a long history full of lots of success and big game battles including a number between the 2 that have gone down in the history books.
One such occasion came all of the way back in the 1933-34 season when they faced off against each other in the final of the Rugby Football League Championships Division One final to decide the champions of England.
In a relatively dominant display, it was Wigan who ran out the winners by 15 points to 3 to pick up the silverware and the glory.
In the 1930’s the 2 sides met in 3 straight Lancashire Cup finals, which were all won by Salford.
In the 1934-35 final they won 21-12 at Station Road in Swinton whilst in the following year, they won 15 points to 7 at the same location.
The last match of the trilogy came in the 1936-37 season, when Salford battled past Wigan by 5 points to 2 at Wilderspool Stadium in Warrington.
It didn’t take long for Wigan to gain a small amount of revenge however as the sides also met in the 1938-39 edition of the cup, where Wigan ran out 10-7 victors, once again at Station Road.
It took until the 1973-74 season for the 2 sides to once again met in the Lancashire Cup final, when Wigan once again prevailed in an entertaining 19-9 win at Wilderspool Stadium.
After another gap, the 2 sides faced off in the final one last time in the 1988-89 season when Wigan won a close battle by 22 points to 17 at Knowsley Road in St Helens.
