Leeds Rhinos v Wakefield Trinity Preview
The Leeds Rhinos welcome Wakefield Trinity, their local rivals, up the M1 for a derby that tends to deliver great action and lots of talking points.
For much of the Super League era, the Leeds Rhinos have been battling it out towards the top of the Super league table whilst the Trin have been battling at avoiding relegation or picking up the wooden spoon.
With that in mind it is no surprise that the home side have enjoyed much of the success in these games but Wakey have managed to pull of a few shocks along the way and there have been lots of matches that have been in the balance throughout.
Both sides have lots of quality and both have players who can produce moments of magic and match winning performance that always make this a tough game to predict the winner of.

History
For newer fans of the sport, this has been a slightly on-sided rivalry for much of the summer era, but it hasn’t always been that way.
As 2 of the most historic clubs in the sport, both sides have enjoyed lots of success and periods of success, which has led to a number of big matches between the 2 sides for titles and trophies.
One such occasion at the national level came in the 1967-68 season Challenge Cup final when the 2 sides grabbed headlines up and down the country by playing out one of the most iconic finals in the history of the sport.
In what became known as the Watersplash Final, the 2 sides battled it out on a waterlogged pitched and whilst Leeds came away with a 11-10 victory, the match is remembered for Wakefield’s Don Fox missing a penalty from in front of the posts due to the conditions to cost his team the win in a match he had already been awarded the Lance Todd Trophy for his man of the match performance.
The 2 sides cup pedigree has also often been on show in more regional competitions where they have met in a number of big Yorkshire Cup matches including the 1932-33 final when Leeds pick up the trophy thanks to an 8-0 victory at Fartown Stadium in Huddersfield.
