Leeds Rhinos v Huddersfield Giants Preview
The Leeds Rhinos welcome their West Yorkshire rivals, the Huddersfield Giants to the famous Headingley Stadium for a match that has great potential and one that is a tough one to predict.
This is a game that has given us some great moments over the last decade or so (who can forget THAT Ryan Hall try!) and with the quality on both sides of the field it has the potential to produce once again.
What makes this such an unpredictable game however is the fact that there is so much quality on both sides of the field that on their day, these 2 can be as good as anybody in Super League but both struggle for consistency over the 80 minutes and both are perhaps too reliant on individuals to produce match winning moments and performances.

Stadium
The match takes place at the iconic Headingley Stadium in North Leeds and what a great venue it is for this local derby.
The stadium is both one of the most historic stadiums in the country but it is also one of the most modern thanks to the massive levels of investments and improvements made in all aspects of Headingley.
Nowadays, the ground offers modern facilities including standing areas, seating areas and corporate facilities to rival any rugby specific stadium in the world and all of that gives the perfect setting for the players to give us 80 minutes of quality entertainment.

History
These 2 historic giants, if you pardon the pun, of the sport in England have enjoyed lots of success on the national scene but also at the local level.
One of the first biggest matches came early on in the histories of both clubs as they met in the final of the Rugby Football League Championship First Division title decider when it was Huddersfield who ran out winners by 35-2 in a comfortable win to become the champions of England for the 3rd time in 4 years before the sport finished on a national level for the First World War.
In the late 1920’s both teams were amongst the strongest in the country and met in back to back title deciders.
In the 1928-29 final, it was Huddersfield who ran out the winners in a low scoring affair by just 2 points to 0. Interestingly, they managed to keep Leeds scoreless in the final 12 months later as they came away with a 10-0 win and back to back league titles.
With both sides based in the heartland county of Yorkshire it is no surprise that they have also enjoyed success at that level including many battles between the 2.
Things started early in country competitions as well as the 2 sides met in the 1919-20 Yorkshire Cup final at Thrum Hall in Halifax in a match that Huddersfield ran away to a 24-5 victory.
The same stadium hosted the 2 sides the next time that they met in the final of the same competition when Leeds gained revenge with a 10-2 win.
The next time the two met in the final of the Yorkshire Cup the match took place at Odsal Stadium in Bradford when it was Leeds who won by 14 points to 8 in the 1937-38 season.
