Wigan Warriors vs Warrington Wolves
The Wigan Warriors take on their North West rivals, the Warrington Wolves in the 2018 Super League Grand Final at the impressive Old Trafford Stadium and the great news for not only fans of both teams but for rugby and sport fans in general is that you can watch all of the action live online via our Super League live streaming partners.
Both teams have had great seasons so far, as you would expect from the 2 sides in the end of season Grand Final but whilst Warrington have had up and down spells, Wigan have found a level of consistency that belittles they well worked but perhaps uninspiring style of play.
Warrington pulled off a massive shock in defeating Saints to get here whilst Wigan had a comfortable win over Cas but whilst you have to say that Wigan are the form team coming into the match, the good news for Warrington and neutral fans is that form often goes out of the window and it comes down to which team can handle the pressure of the occasion the best on the day.
Warrington will be able to use the motivation of another final so soon after losing at Wembley but they will know that in that final against the Dragons they struggled to live up to expectation. Against a Wigan club with so much experience of Grand Finals, they simply will need to be at it from the off to have any chance of a victory.
Wigan will have extra motivation from this been almost the end of an era for the club as many big names, such as Sam Tomkins move on whilst their coach, Shaun Wane, will finish a trophy laden spell as head coach.
Wigan have now won each of their last 9 matches whilst Warrington have won 2 of their last 4 but those 2 wins have come in their last 2 outings.
Thankfully for Wire fans and for neutral fans, form often counts for little in the Super League Grand Final.
The recent head to head for these 2 is also in the favour of the Warriors, who have won the last 2 matches between the sides but Warrington did nil Wigan in the cup earlier this season.
Both teams name an unchanged squad for this one.
With Wigan amongst the most successful teams of the Super League era and the most successful in European Rugby history, it is surprising that Warrington haven’t won a domestic title since 1955 but whilst you may think that would make the Warriors the big favourites, this is, as all good Grand Finals are, too close to call.
Wigan perhaps have the added experience and belief of so many of their squad having played at Old Trafford and having won but the Warrington players have lots of big game experience themselves and they will have the added motivation of that loss at Wembley.
Warrington have built up a reputation of losing big matches however and of under-performing on the biggest stages but up against the highly efficient Wigan, they know that they will haver to be at their very best from the off.
Wigan too will be out for revenge after their humiliating cup exit this season but as is so often the case, all thoughts of anything but the game will go out the window as soon as the players step out in front of 70,000+ crowd and it will come down to which side can handle the pressure on the day.
The Wigan style of players a highly structured game and the same game plan no matter what the occasion, the opponent or the score, will work in their favour once more and whilst most neutrals will likely want a Warrington win and a new name of the Super League trophy, we are going to back the Warriors for yet another victory but as mentioned this will be a close game throughout and will simply be down to who takes their chances when on offer.
