Wigan Warriors vs St Helens
The Wigan Warriors take on their arch rivals, St Helens in the Derby and the great news not only for fans of both teams but for rugby fans in general is that you can watch all of the action live online via our Super League live streaming partners.
In front of what should be a huge crowd swelled by a massive away following this game will have a play-off type atmosphere and that should help create a great game but usually for a game that is normally between teams battling it out at the top end of the season, this game will have a huge say on things at both ends of the table.
Saints go into the game top of the table, with just the 1 loss all season long and on the back of a dominant win against the then top of the table Warrington last time out.
Wigan on the other hand go into the round just 2 points off of the foot of the table and knowing that a heavy loss in this one could see them end the round rooted to the foot of the table and staring at a wooden spoon and of course relegation.
With a packed house, local bragging rights and battles at the top and bottom of the table on the line, this is all set to be amongst the games of the season and a must watch occasion but the home side will be grateful that form often goes out of the window in these big matches and it comes down to which team can handle the pressure of the occasion on the day.
Wigan have won just 2 of their last 5 matches and they have now lost each of their last 2. At home, they have been equally poor but they did demolish the Dragons in their last home outing.
Saints have lost just 1 game all season but that did come in their last away game in the South of France although they defeated Warrington last time out.
The Wigan Warriors will be relieved to welcome back their captain Sean O’Loughlin for his 47th derby. Ben Flower former Saints star Joe Greenwood are both back but Sam Powell is banned.
Saints make just the 1 change with Theo Fages replacing Jack Ashworth.
Whilst these big derbies always tend to give us close match ups and games that are in the balance throughout, this is not a usual derby with the Warriors so far off of the pace at the moment.
With Saints having all of the form and with the quality amongst the ranks of Saints head and shoulders above the Warriors, it is difficult to see anything other than an away win but we do expect Wigan to step things up and for the game to be close until the final quarter when the Saints will pull out to a comfortable win.
