Widnes Vikings v St Helens

The Widnes Vikings take on their North West rivals St Helens in the first Super League game of the 2018 Magic Weekend and the great news for all Rugby fans is that you can watch all of the action live online via our Super League live streaming partners.

Despite be close in terms of location, these 2 teams have been far apart on the field this season as Widnes have found the going tough whilst St Helens have been revitalised this season and go in to the game top of the table.

Widnes start down in 10th and joint bottom of the table but more importantly with a 4 point gap to the top 8, a loss in this one is a massive step towards the Qualifiers for Widnes whilst a win, especially against Saints, could be just the boost they need going forward to grab a spot in the top 8.

The Vikings have now lost their last 6 matches in the league and they exited the cup last weekend in a narrow defeat to Leeds.

St Helens have won 4 of their last 5 matches in the league including each of their last 3.

Team News

Widnes welcome back the trio of Joe Mellor, Danny Craven and Patrick Ah Van alongside Danny Walker and Jimmy Keinhorst to make 5 change sin all from their loss to Leeds.

Kyle Amor is suspended for Saints, who bring in Matty Lees for their only change.

Whilst the Vikings have the quality to make a game of it, especially in the early going, the 2 squads along with the sides league placings do highlight the gulf in class between the 2 sides and in the end that class will shine through and Saints will, in our opinion, run out comfortable winners.

In the likes of Barba and Makinson, Saints have players who are in such good form that they are scoring for fun. When you couple that with the pack they have, Saints will likely control the game throughout and when that happens the Vikings often tire in the 2nd half and if that happens, St Helens could run in a big score.
