History
These 2 historic North West clubs have a long history of success and big matches including a number where the 2 have faced off against each other.
One such occasion came all of the way back in the 1936-37 seasons when they met in the Rugby Football League Championship First Division final to decide upon the champions of England.
On that occasion it was Salford who came out on top with a narrow 13-11 win that saw Salford grab the league title.
As well as meeting in big matches on the national scene, these 2 near neighbours have also battled it out over silverware on a more local level.
The 2 sides met in the final of the 1929-30 Lancashire Cup when Warrington easily won 15 points to 2 in a match played at Central Park Stadium in Wigan.
In the 1974-75 season, Salford welcomed Warrignton to The Willows for the final of the BBC2 Floodlit Trophy but after a 0-0 draw, the match went to a replay at Wilderspool Stadium in Warrington but despite that, it was Salford who came away with a 10-5 win.
