Wakefield Trinity vs Leeds Rhinos

Wakefield Trinity welcome their near neighbours the Leeds Rhinos for this West Yorkshire derby that will have a massive say on both teams seasons going forward.

Wakefield are doing it tough at the moment as not only do they have a huge injury list in terms of the number of players missing but most importantly in terms of the quality of player missing, with the majority of their star players (and highest earners) sat in the stands watching.

It is to the credit of Chris Chester and his coaching team that Wakey go into this second match of the Easter Period in 5th place and just 2 points off of 3rd, but this 2nd match of the Easter period could really be tough for the home side with such a small group of available players.

Leeds certainly won’t care too much about that as they go into the round joint bottom of the table and in dire need of the points. Wakefield looked a bit sorry for themselves in the first half of their match against Cas and whilst they showed great heart to all most fight back, they cannot afford to give the Rhinos such a commanding lead and expect to get anything from this one.

Wakefield have won 3 of their last 5 outings and each of their last 3 at home.

Leeds have won just 2 of their last 5 outings in the league but they have come in their last 3 matches.

Team News

Wakefield have been hit by injuries once again, with both Matty Ashurst and Joe Arundel missing for this one. That see’s both Jack Croft and Lee Kershaw step up to the first team squad as cover.

Leeds on the other hand name the same squad that defeated Huddersfield.

On paper this should be a home win as the play-off chasing Trinity welcome the relegation fighting Leeds but with nearly a full first time missing form one of the smallest squads in the league, it is difficult to see how Wakefield can get anything out of this.

This is simply a game Leeds have to win if they are to avoid the drop and it should be one that they win comfortably.
