Wakefield Trinity v Huddersfield Giants

Wakefield Trinity meet their local rivals the Huddersfield Giants in the 2nd game of the 2nd day from the 2018 Super League magic Weekend and the great news for fans is that you can watch all of the action live online via our Super League live streaming partners.

The 2 West Yorkshire rivals meet just 1 week on from their battle in the Challenge Cup in a game where the Giants came away with the win in what was a minor shock.

Heading into this league game it is Trinity who have enjoyed the better league season as it is they who start in 7th place and in that all important top 8 whilst the Giants start in 9th spot. With a gap of 5 points between the 2 sides, Wakey could all but wrap up safety in the Super League for another season but they know that a loss would see them dragged into the battle to avoid the Qualifiers.

Huddersfield could move to just 1 point behind Salford, who go into the round in 8th, and that sets them up for a fascinating end to the first part of the season but a loss could see them stuck in the bottom 4.

Both teams have little form heading into the game, so whilst we may not be in for a classic match, the importance of the 2 points for both sides should lead to a close game and one that will be a fascinating watch not just for fans of both sides but for all Super League fans.

Wakefield have won just 2 of their last 5 in the league but one of those wins, and their biggest win of the season, did come last time out at home to Hull KR.

The Giants have won just 1 of their last 5 league games but that win also came last time out at home to Widnes but they also backed that up with a win against Wakefield last time out in the cup.

Team News

Wakefield make 2 changes to the squad that lost to the Giants last week in the cup with Danny Kirmond and Ben Jones-Bishop replacing Joe Arundel and Max Jowitt.

The Giants also make 2 changes with former Wakey player Aaron Murphy joining Oliver Roberts in the squad. Daniel Smith and Sam Wood make way.

It will be fascinating to see how Wakey line up for this one as they go into the game without a recognisable full-back, both BJB and Rocky Hampshire have spent time at the back but with it been such a specialised area, it will surly hit the Trin hard.

Their tends to be some issues with discipline when teams meet in back to back weeks and with this been a local derby as well, it is up to the players to keep their heads.

Wakefield will be out for ‘revenge’ after seeing their best hopes of a trophy disappear last weekend, especially with the Giants drawing the Dragons in the next round.

It will be the top 8 and safety on the minds of Wakefield this week as a win will all but secure that top 8 place. The players will need to show up much better than they have done recently and especially when compared to last week but the pressure of that top 8 place could hamper them.

Both teams have been well below par this season which could lead to a scrappy game at Newcastle but we are expecting a close game that will be in the balance throughout and despite concerns over the number 1 jersey, we are going to back Wakey as they have the more threats, especially out on the wing and they have the bigger pack which in what could be a grind could prove invaluable.
