Salford Red Devils v Catalans Dragons
The Salford Red Devils and the Catalans Dragons kick off day 2 of the 2018 Super League Magic Weekend and the great news for fans is that you can watch this game and all of the action from Newcastle live online via our Super League live streaming partners.
It has been a tough season to date for the Red Devils who go into this game on the back of a shock loss in the cup against the Championships Leigh Centurions but they are still clinging onto a top 8 position in the league and all that that entails.
The Red Devils go into the round with 3 point gap over Huddersfield and a 4 point gap over 3 teams, including the Dragons which just highlights the importance of the win for them as the 2 points could see them close to been safe in the top 8 whilst a loss could see them dragged right back into a battle to avoid the Qualifiers.
The same is of course true for the Dragons who have been arguably the biggest disappointment of the season so far and it is them who prop up the Super League table heading into Newcastle.
With so much talent at their disposal, the Dragons should be targeting the top 8 at a minimum but if they lose this game that will be all but over and they will be set for another campaign in the Qualifiers.
A win will however move them to within a win of the top 8 and will give hope to themselves and the teams involved in the scrap at the bottom.
Such is the fine margins involved, this game could be a scrappy one but with the importance for both teams, it will be an exciting one for fans of both sides.
Salford have won 2 of their last 5 matches but have lost their last 2 league games heavily and they also lost in the cup last weekend.
The Dragons have also won just 2 of their last 5 league games but they won in the cup last week at home to Whitehaven.
Salford fans will be relieved to see key playmaker Robert Lui back from injury after missing the last month.
Les Dracs are almost back to full strength with David Mead, Brayden Wiliame, Greg Bird, Louis Anderson, Remi Casty all returning.
With such little form between the 2 sides, it makes this a hugely difficult match to predict.
On paper you would have to give it to the Dragons for the extra quality they have in their ranks but the French team have long since struggled to paly to their full capability and after going a year or so on the road without a win, it is now a mental challenge as it a talent/ physical one.
With a close game expected throughout it will likely be those doubts in the mind of the Dragons players that could see them lose again with the best hope for Catalans to get out to a big lead and to simply cling on.
