England vs New Zealand

England welcome the New Zealand Kiwis to Hull for the first of a 3 match series between the 2 giants of the International game and the great news for fans is that the game can be watched live on BBC TV.

England will go into the series full of confidence as not only are they the host nation but they also had their most successful World Cup campaign in recent memory slat year. The hosts have also enjoyed lots of success against the Kiwis in recent times, especially in the UK but with the Kiwis coming into the series on the back of win over Australia, things are set up for 3 great matches.

England have won 4 of their last 5 matches with their only loss been in the World Cup final against Australia. Last week, they comfortably defeated France with many big names missing.

As mentioned, New Zealand defeated the Kangaroos last time out, that did end a losing run of 3 straight matches including losses to Fiji and Tonga.

These 2 met in the USA during the season with England running out 36-18 winners.

Team News

After resting a number of players, including all of those who played in the Grand Final, against France in their warm up, England are back to full strength for this opening test against the Kiwis.

With that said, the home side are still without Sam Burgess, Ryan Hall, Gareth Widdop and Kallum Watkins who are all injured but John Bateman, Oliver Gildart, George Williams, Sean O’Loughlin, Sam Tomkins, Daryl Clark and Chris Hill are all back.

Jake Connor, Richie Myler and Luke Thompson all get a chance after impressing against France whilst their is no place for Tom Johnstone despite his debut hat-trick.

New Zealand name the same team that defeated Australia 2 weeks ago.

England will go into this game full of confidence after their big win in Denver but this is a much changed New Zealand team and a Kiwis side who themselves are full of confidence.

As with all great matches, this game is too close to call in many way as it will likely come down to the battle between the halves.

In Jake Connor and Johnson for the Kiwis, there agree 2 of the most unpredictable players on the planet in key roles. Both can be the star man or both can struggle throughout, so the outcome will likely come down to which of these 2 players have the better game.

At his home ground Connor will have a huge advantage and in front of their home fans, England will be going all out to open the series with a win so we are going to back them for the win but this could easily go either way and we wouldn’t be surprised if there is only a couple of points in the result by the end of the game.
