Catalans Dragons 2016 Season Review
Catalans Dragons 2016 Season Review
The Dragons made a fantastic start to the season and in the first 3rd of the season the Perpignan based side were not only playing the most attractive rugby but most importantly they were winning both at home and on the road.
Unfortunately for their fans and the league in general things quickly unravelled as off of the field issues coupled with a long injury list hit the club hard and they plummeted down the table.
Regular Season
After the last few seasons of struggling on the road it was interesting to see the Dragons do well over in England. If they are to make it into the top tier of the game and make it to finals, they need to have a strong away record.
Unfortunately, the club’s injury list along with a number of disruptive players / off of the field issues saw the Dragons finish the regular season down in 5th place.
Super 8’s
Starting the Super 8s just 2 points behind Saints in the last playoff place there is a good chance that Catalans could reach the play offs but with some many injuries and many of their star imports not featuring, their Super 8s record was the second worst behind Wakefield.
Biggest Disappointment
Injuries, off of the field issues and over issues derailing what was looking like a fantastic season.
Reasons to be Positive
The injuries did allow the club to feature team full of young French talent which can only benefit them in the long run.
Overall
A poor season which in the main was out of the club’s hands.
Next Season
The club need to get their recruitment right with too many players using the club for pay days or for a lifestyle change but with the likes of Greg Bird already signed up, things are looking positive.
