Castleford Tigers v Salford Red Devils
The Castleford Tigers take on the Salford Red Devils at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle on Sunday in a match that should answer a lot of questions that have been asked about both teams this season.
For the Castleford the question’s have been about their ability to back up form last season and to even go one better and win the Grand Final. So far, they have fallen quite a bit short of the standards they set last year. After a shaky start they have started to progress round on round, but it will be interesting to see what impact their late cancellation against Hull KR last weekend has.
For Salford all of the question have been around how they would react to the fallout of the Koukash era and the trouble their former owner has left them in. With many star names gone and the club relying on the promise of youngsters more than aging stars, it was always going to be a difficult start to the season but they have struggled probably worse than many expected and really need to get a moral and confidence boosting performance under their belts and a win at the home of the reigning League Leaders Shield winners could be just that boost they need.
Castleford have won 2 of their 3 matches in the league this season, both of which have come at the Jungle.
Salford have played 4 matches and have won just 1 of those games.
The Tigers make no changes to the squad that defeated Hull FC last time out.
Salford make just 1 change to their squad with George Griffin replacing Wales captain Craig Kopczak. Weller Hauraki is named after missing out last week with injury.
Whilst Salford are showing some great spirit this season they are lacking quality in a number of place and certainly don’t have the belief and confidence of this Tigers squad.
Whilst we expect the Red Devils to make life hard work for the Tigers throughout the game, Cas just have to many threats across the park and too many quality finishers.
Cas may not be anywhere near the level of last season but they shouldn’t need to be in this one as we predict a relatively comfortable home win.
