Wigan Warriors v Warrington Wolves
Wigan’s win in the South of France last week has given them the security of finishing in the top 8 and the much-improved performance will give them confidence going into this local derby but all of the pressure is now on Warrington who are now in the last chance saloon.
Matches between Wigan and Warrington have normally gone a long way to deciding where titles and trophies have gone but this one is between the 7th placed Warriors and the 9th placed Wolves. That just highlights the competitive nature of the Super league in 2017.
Warrington have 2 matches to save their season as they go into this one outside of the top 8 and 3 points behind Huddersfield. A win in this one will not only be a major confidence boost but it will but the pressure straight onto the Giants.
Wigan have started to find form recently as they have ended a 4-match losing run with a draw and then 2 straight wins coming into this one.
Warrington themselves have ended a 4-match losing run with 2 wins and 1 loss from their last 3 matches although both of those wins came at home.
The last time the 2 teams met, at the Magic Weekend, the game ended 24-24 with Wigan scoring a last-minute equaliser.
Sean O’Loughlin is named in the Wigan squad so the England captain should be set to make his 400th appearance for the Warriors. The home side make just the 1 change with Liam Marshal replacing Liam Finn who is injured.
The big news for Warrington is the return of Ben Currie who has been out since September with a cruciate ligament injury.
With Wigan been able to let up somewhat this is a game there for the taking for Warrington who have their whole season on the line.
That has to be enough of a motivator for the Wolves to be able to pull of somewhat of a shock result and come away with the points.
With that said you can never write of the Warriors at home and with how Warrington have played this year, it is unlikely that they will be able to step up and are likely to disappoint their fans once more in what should be a close loss to their rivals.
Our Prediction: Wigan Warriors by 6
